On Saturday, March 12th, Homeboy Industries, the world’s biggest gang rehabilitation and re-entry program, held its 2022 Lo Máximo Awards and Fundraising Gala at the J.W. Marriott at L.A. Live. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin sponsored the Homeboy Industries 2022 Lo Máximo Awards and Fundraising Gala to recognize the daring individuals who came to Homeboy Industries and bravely built new paths forward, as well as the exceptional people who have committed their lives’ work to giving back.
Homeboy Industries is the world’s largest gang rehabilitation and reintegration program. Their objective is to offer formerly gang-involved and jailed persons with hope, training, and support so that they may reclaim their lives and contribute to their communities. Maria Shriver, Connie Britton, Phil Rosenthal, Paul Scheer, Ross McCall, June Diane Raphael, and others were among the supporters in attendance.

The gala celebrated and honored many including Marisela Gutierrez, who came to Homeboy Industries in 2016 and began her journey of healing. Joseph Raymond who was born into a family with three generations of gang members, also was honored that night. Both shared a similar journey and have had a major transformation that has impact both their lives. Now, another amazing persona honored that night was Oscar-winning actor Jane Fonda. Fonda has been a passionate champion for the organization for more than 50 years and is co-chair of the team’s ambitious aims to develop and continue to expand the number of women, men, adolescents, and families it assists. Jane was presented with the Homeboy Kinship Award.
Mike Stoller, a philanthropist and well-known composer who worked on songs for Elvis Presley, the Coasters, and many other musicians as part of the songwriting team, was also honored with the Homeboy Kinship Award. Mike established the Music Heals program in 2017, which offers a trauma-informed, therapeutically focused music immersion experience to formerly gang-involved men and women. The whole evening was dedicated to honoring all of these incredible folks with well-deserved honors.
The purpose of Lo Máximo is to give hope, training, and assistance to formerly gang-involved and jailed persons so that they can recover their lives and contribute to their communities. Visit the event’s official website to learn more about the 2022 Lo Máximo Awards.
